Dental Bridge

If you have missing teeth, your dentist can close — or bridge — the gaps in your smile with dental bridges. A dental bridge is a false tooth (called a pontic) that is held in place by the abutment teeth on either side of the gap.

A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. The main design of bridge has the two adjacent teeth being prepared for crowns and these are then used to support a false tooth between them.

Other designs include using one tooth to support a false tooth. Another design uses metal wings to attach to the supporting teeth. There are many possible variations on this design of a bridge but they all have the advantage of being fixed in position.

Similar to crowns modern bridge materials combine both strength and appearance and excellent cosmetic results can be achieved.

Bridgework needs to be well maintained and we will give you advice on how to best clean around these areas at the time of treatment.
