White Fillings

Many people don’t want silver fillings because they can be unsightly and darken over time, as they tarnish. We routinely place white fillings unless there are specific clinical situations that would dictate otherwise.
White fillings are made from a combination of ceramic particles and plastic resin. Though they are traditionally considered to be weaker than silver fillings, we use new materials that have similar strength and offer great long-term success.
The success of the filling depends on its size and the pressure that comes on the tooth when you bite together. In cases where there is a very large filling, this may mean the tooth is weak. In this situation a crown or a veneer may be a better option.
